Material homonyms

Hakala, Allison Lynn

Abstract Details

2000, Master of Fine Arts, Ohio State University, Art.

I am interested in sensations I get from my experiences and surroundings. I can appeal to the senses by referring to things I come into contact with - people, architecture, and nature. Using these comfortable, everyday subjects, I relate to and choose to create compositions for the work. This can be mentally, by creating a story, or physically by rearranging pieces for a new visual impact. People are easily intimidated by art, especially touching it, so I make it small with a whimsical quality to ease the tension of their interaction. I do not wish to dictate how a person will see or feel about the work except for using objects as a means of creativity - like toys or books that let us use our imagination.
