The Effect of Public Organizations in Developing the Ethnic Minority Folk Song of Guizhou, China

Hegedus, Michael S.

Abstract Details

2012, Master of Arts, Ohio State University, East Asian Languages and Literatures.
Guizhou’s ethnic minority folk songs are some of the most unique and rich cultural treasures in all of China. However, these local folk songs are either disappearing or their cultural function has greatly diminished. To redress this problem, many government and non-government organizations have participated in the preservation and development of ethnic minority folk song. At present, the function of these public organizations has not been classified or received comprehensive analysis, thus this paper will utilize both academic and fieldwork methods to perform a more holistic and objective investigation into this phenomenon. Through exploring a variety of viewpoints, this research will attempt to better explain the role of public organizations in Guizhou ethnic minority music’s current and future development.
