The painting discussed in Here are composed of multiple layers of thinned oil paint applied to shelves made of plywood either stained or painted with a base coat of latex semi-gloss paint. The thin layers of oil paint are "piled" on one another, sometimes opaque, sometimes transparent, sometimes semi-transparent. Their coloring refers to the sky--or some say the water. The shelves are installed perpendicular to the wall, so the painted layers are parallel to the floor.
Here is a set of brief notes about the current thinking behind this work, including the nature and intent of its layers, color, size, position on the wall, and its concern with presenting contradictions.
