Homofaber: Making Meaning

Derry, Sean Michael

Abstract Details

2004, Master of Fine Arts, Ohio State University, Art.
I understand my art to be an investigation of the self in a place. In order to more fully comprehend self and place, as a way of making meaning, I place a system in motion. I attempt to isolate fragments of my experience and then reassemble these fragments into constructed systems. Insight gained from this motion, a performance, is the result of a production of novel metaphoric relationships. Meaning arises when the reach of my processes crosses the extremities of others revealing a relationship of like things. An encounter with what was once unexpected or unknown places me. I investigate experience through a making of things.
