Abstract Details

2002, Master of Fine Arts, Ohio State University, Theatre.
This thesis is a documentation of my rehearsal and performance process for the role of Margery Eyre in Thomas Dekker’s The Shoemaker’s Holiday produced by The Ohio State University Department of Theatre, February 27-March 9, 2002. The central problem I explored was how to overcome my learning disability, Central Auditory Processing Deficit (CAPD). Throughout this process I devised strategies based on researching the role, researching my disability, analyzing the script, and exploring different notation strategies. Although my disability created unique challenges, a detailed approach to the work, from character and script analysis to researching Dekker’s use of comedy to support the idea of democracy in a class-divided society of seventeenth century London, allowed me to live truthfully on stage.
