Abstract Details

2001, Master of Fine Arts, Ohio State University, Art.
My exploration as an artist involves many materials. Glass, by nature of its physical properties, powers my search. This search involves creating in order to explore consciousness. Questions about memory, ritual, time, and the nature of communication result in objects, systems, and situations. The subsequent residue of the art making process then stands like evidence at the scene of a crime. The art clues alter the attitude of mind from which things are considered. I make no claims to have any answers. My artwork stands as evidence of time spent meditating on personal questions. It is my desire that you make your own conclusions. I hope questions will arise more frequently than answers. As the nature of one's questions grow, so too does the awareness of self. Glass sits as a state of matter, existing as a simultaneous situation that has been a window to discovery. From optics to alcohol, glass enables human consciousness to grow. The following pages are offered as a companion and possible guide to understanding how my art finds its form.
