The nature of the Visual: In Form for Communication

Boyle, Jeremy M.

Abstract Details

2008, Master of Fine Arts, Ohio State University, Art.
This paper describes my body of artwork produced during the time of my graduate studies in art at The Ohio State University. My work is very interdisciplinary in nature, utilizing many different forms, such as sound, music, performance, sculpture, image, language, collaboration and architecture, and exists in a range of contexts, such as in the gallery, on the stage, in education and within the public sphere. I find it personally important to work with a diverse range of methods and to define my practice as divergent rather than convergent. My work is responsive to context and is motivated primarily as an attempt to understand and/or describe my relation to or understanding of the context within I exist. I have a tendency toward and interest in utilizing visual systems of expression, understanding and communication. This is true even when using non-visual mediums such as sound, where I tend to translate the experience to include or rely upon the visual (or its relation to the visual).
