The Topology of Time

Luckner, Peter P

Abstract Details

2014, Master of Arts, Ohio State University, Art.
Having spent the greater part of my existence in pursuit of describing experiences outside of language, it comes as no surprise that my pursuit of using language as a tool for contextualizing my work has been like pushing a boulder uphill. In preparation for this paper, I relied on the processes that have guided my work for the last ten years. Process is what attracts me the most to painting. Despite having deeper cultural roots than any other, painting is the most freeing medium. Over the years I have experimented with film, photography, and video, but my methodology has remained the same. My intent has never been to use technology to polish my work; rather, I have sought to make digital art more painterly. Working back and forth in video and painting has led me to think about the potential of collage. I began to think of both forms as devices that we use to experience and capture time and memory. My thesis research is a meditation on the infinite possibilities both mediums and their combinations yield.
