Abstract
The A2E'' <- X2A2' spectrum of the NO3 radical has been recorded using jet-cooled cavity ringdown spectroscopy. Both moderate (vibronic) and high-resolution spectra have been taken and analyzed. The moderate resolution spectrum has been collected from from 7550 cm-1 to 9750 cm-1 and more than 20 bands are observed and assigned. Our spectrum differs from previous spectra of this transition due to jet-cooling, which narrows the rotational contours and eliminates spectral interference from hot-bands. Assignments of numerous vibronic features can be made based on both band contour and position including the previously unassigned 310 band and several combination bands with it. We have analyzed this spectrum first with an independent anharmonic oscillator model and then by including linear, quadratic, cross-quadratic, and bilinear Jahn-Teller coupling terms. The Jahn-Teller analysis necessitated the development of a new program, SOCJT 2. SOCJT 2 improves upon previous software by expanding its capabilities and dramatically improving runtimes. The results of this analysis with a discussion of their implications are presented. High resolution spectra have also been obtained for several vibronic bands and two bands, the 310 and 310410, have been analyzed and are presented.
