Rhollans, Mary D

Abstract Details

2015, Master of Mathematical Sciences, Ohio State University, Mathematical Sciences.
National assessment statistics demonstrate the difficulty in providing an excellent educational experience for low-income students. This paper is a reflection on some of the early challenges beginning teachers faced as they sought to do just that. While every educational and instructional journey is unique, many new teachers faced common struggles in cultivating a productive cultural atmosphere and content-rich environment in their classrooms. This paper provides a narrative of how those challenges played out in eight classrooms, advice those pre-service teachers were given to address the challenges, and the outcomes of the coaching experience.
