At the present both China’s economy and society are at a turning point. One mechanism which China hopes to employ to help it transition through this turning point is “New Urbanization”. China’s “New Urbanization” plan is very large in scope. This plan is comprised of many different programs throughout the country, the most important of which is in the Beijing Urban Circle Region (i.e. Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region). This hope for this plan is that urbanization not only can encourage and drive the growth and development of the region, but also help these three regions better integrate. This goal is certainly not easy as there still exist many problems and barriers hindering Beijing, Tianjin and Hebei’s integration. In this paper, we will examine the current situation of the Beijing Urban Circle region as well as the problems this region faces and the causes and sources of these problems. Furthermore we will investigate relevant policies and measure and their effect upon said problems. In the final section of the paper we will analyze survey data collected from individuals from the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region.
