Theories on the Implications of Migration

Reynolds, Taylor, Reynolds

Abstract Details

2016, Master of Arts, Ohio State University, Slavic and East European Studies.
Since the collapse of the Soviet Union, labor migration has increased from Central Asia to the Russian Federation. Primarily, these migrant laborers have come from Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, and Tajikistan. In my thesis, I show how trends in labor migration have come together to reconstruct Central Asian national identities. I also show how labor migration has major implications for the future of Central Asia, especially in terms of economic development and cultural traditions. I draw on personal interviews and popular news sources in order to construct my thesis.
