MPEG-2 is an international standard being widely applied as a transport system. Also, MPEG-2 Transport Streams are fully defined by the International Standard ISO/IEC 13818-1. With the fast development of digital television broadcasting and video communications, the special multiple transport streams multiplexer is required for dealing with abundant video and audio data stream. Since the computer has strong data analyzing capacity, the TS processing, one module of the whole multiplexing process, can be implemented by software programming. Rather than general design based on FPGA with soft IP core and hard IP core, this thesis shows the design based on CPU and FPGA. This thesis analyzes the whole process of multiplexing, demonstrates the embedded software design of TS processing module and shows the implementation details of the design. Finally, the thesis proves that the design in the thesis can be successfully implemented by software, and this design has lower cost with good workload capacity, efficiency and flexibility comparing to previous studies.
