The Emergent Good of Public Institutions

Newman, Andrew Thomas, Newman

Abstract Details

2018, Master of Arts, Ohio State University, Political Science.
While the subject of wealth redistribution for the provision of public goods has been discussed at great length in the political theory literature, there has been comparably little discussion on the manner in which these goods can impact a society at large. I outline here a concept I term the emergent good, wherein all participants of a body politic benefit in manifold and unexpected ways via the emergent properties which arise in a society with public goods such as education, healthcare, infrastructure, and the like.
