Material Bodies

Abstract Details

2019, Master of Fine Arts, Ohio State University, Art.
My art practice questions the overlap between the extremely personal and the public narrative. I seek to open a dialogue surrounding the private moments and struggles we experience as individuals and how we can acknowledge these to grow as a population. My current research investigates the decline of the body in relation to the continuous state of loss we experience throughout our lifetimes. I am working to highlight the beauty in the struggle and to balance the despair with hope. My thesis investigation blends personal questions of overcoming loss with broader questions of the impact of death anxiety. The project has roots in the field of glassmaking, but it is pushing the material to embrace its fragility and interact with other sculptural media such as Personal Installation and Performance.
