Diversity and inclusion have become critical topics in today's society. This exploratory case study describes how diversity and inclusion impact Ohio agricultural organizations and how their executive leaders and board presidents utilize adaptive leadership to address this critical social issue within their organizations. This study investigates the background of the agricultural organizations, how organizations value diversity and inclusion, how organizations are engaged in diversity and inclusion work, and if organization executive leaders and board presidents utilize adaptive leadership to address diversity and inclusion. Through a three-stage coding process, researchers were able to determine themes that align with the three research questions of this study. This research aimed to contribute to the future of diversity and inclusion initiatives within the agricultural industry and help provide context to potential barriers that might prevent this work from happening and add to the insufficiency of literature centered around diversity and inclusion and agricultural organizations. Findings indicated that while Ohio agricultural organizations value diversity and inclusion, they do not have proof of engagement in this topic are to defend the value they claim to have. Additionally, it was discovered that multiple barriers prevent organizations from advancing their diversity and inclusion efforts. Lastly, that organization executive leaders and board presidents do not actively practice adaptive leadership to address diversity and inclusion, and there are barriers that prevent this method of leadership from being implemented such as competing commitments and varying levels of authority. To meet the needs of future practice and research, researchers have identified multiple recommendations which they hope will be beneficial to the future work relating to diversity and inclusion within agricultural organizations.
