This paper provides a survey study of major themes used in the 1980s, 1990s, 2000s, and early 2010s to depict homosexual and transsexual characters on primetime television. Three shows were used as focus pieces: Grey's Anatomy, Glee, and Modern Family. All three programs were in production at the time of the thesis.
