Navigating the Modern Music Industry From Production to Distribution

Reynolds, Ian Jeffrey

Abstract Details

2014, Bachelor of Science (BS), Ohio University, Media Arts and Studies.
This thesis aims to provide both a practical and scholastic examination of the changing, and newly emerging music industry, while taking into account the evolving role of the record company, producer, artist, and fan. The investigation of progressive aspects of the modern democratized and digitized music industry, and DIY producing and recording, provides a road map on how to create and distribute a professional project on a low budget and without the use of a record label. The record, Computer Problems, composed, recorded, and produced under the professional name REYO, illustrates one artist’s ability to successfully entrench himself into the modern music industry.
