We Are All from an Unratified State: The Toledo National Organization for Women and Its Pursuit of the Equal Rights Amendment

Griffis, Chelsea A.

Abstract Details

2009, Master of Arts, University of Toledo, History.
This thesis analyzes the Toledo, Ohio branch of the National Organization for Women and its pursuit of the Equal Rights Amendment from 1972 to 1982. It comes to the conclusion that although the group vigorously worked towards ratification, its efforts were hindered because of limited womanpower and funds. Other obligations and pursued goals, especially at the local level, also used resources that could have furthered the ratification campaign. This case study of one local branch of the National Organization for Women points out that the group had many goals and that it was difficult to focus just on one, even if it was as important as the Equal Rights Amendment.
