Crack Analysis of Notched Alpha Brass Foil

The study on fracture crack is increasingly important nowadays. Fatigue damage of materials in recent research is usually considered as a process during cyclic loading. In the study of fatigue damage of materials, fracture mechanics has been always used for a long time to show the fatigue behavior of metallic materials and a considerable amount of books and papers can be found in this field.In this study, research is focused on the study of crack analysis of notched alpha brass foil. The work on the crack tip behavior of brass foil has provided some theoretical background information and experimental analysis for further understanding the plasticity of both ductile and elastic–plastic metals and alloys under tensile loading conditions. In this thesis, plasticity theories were applied to analyze the deformation states of alpha brass foil associated with a single edged notch. An appropriate method for describing the crack behavior of the alpha brass foil is the modified crack layer theory (MCL). The specific energy of damage, , characteristic of the fracture resistance of the alpha brass foil under tensile loading conditions was found. The relationship between crack length, energy release rate, specific energy of damage and stress intensity factor was analyzed. And a material parameter that can describe the property of brass foil under the loading condition in this work was found.
