Low-Storage Hybrid MacCormack-type Schemes with High Order Temporal Accuracy for Computational Aeroacoustics

A new family of 'hybrid' MacCormack-type (HMC) schemes in 2N-Storage format has recently been introduced to obtain low-cost inherent arti cial dissipation.The scheme uses the strength of original MacCormack-type scheme incorporated to 2N-storage Low Dissipation and Dispersion Runge-Kutta (LDDRK) 56 time marching scheme. In the previous, MacCormack-type scheme in 3N-storage - known as 'hybrid MacCormack-type scheme' - was presented using biased spatial differencing in two stages and non-dissipative central differencing in the remaining stages of the time marching scheme. Hence, high order temporal accuracy is obtained limiting the boundary condition issues of MacCormack-type scheme to only two stages of time marching. In this work, a new family of HMC scheme in 2N-storage is presented with the least memory requirement and the easy way to code including all the benifi ts obtained from the previous 3N-storage scheme. The resulting low-storage HMC schemes are validated on several one dimensional linear and nonlinear CAA benchmark problems.
