General search engines have achieved a lot in both the scale and the quality in recent years. While due to the explosive growth of information and the difference between individual users, personalizing search results based on the user's interest has become desirable and crucial. In this project, we proposed a primitive model for personalized information retrieval environment (PIE), and set up a prototype system. We collect webpages from Internet using a crawler. Each page is assigned a semantic ranking based on the user's personal information. Kleinberg's HITS algorithm has attracted lots of research interest in hyperlink structure analysis. In our PIE system, we proposed a new variation of HITS algorithm: PIE-HITS to refine our search results biased on the user's personal information. We also discussed the pitfalls of using hyperlink information and ways to circumvent them. We presented our experiment results based on an education repository constructed by our crawler.
