SPATIO-TEMPORAL JOINT MUSIC ALGORITHM FOR NARROWBAND AND WIDEBAND DIRECTION OF ARRIVAL ESTIMATION

Direction-Of-Arrival (DOA) and Frequency-Of-Arrival (FOA) estimation has attracted great attention among researchers in recent years. The ML (Maximum Likelihood) approach and subspace-based algorithms have become popular due to their high resolution and better performance. Among them, the Multiple Signal Classification (MUSIC) algorithm based on subspace techniques is one of the most successful algorithms due to its high resolution and the reduced computation compared with Maximum Likelihood (ML) based algorithms. Based on the same subspace technique, we propose two joint MUSIC algorithms for narrow-band DOA/FOA estimation and wide-band DOA/FOA estimation respectively. In the proposed algorithm, we consider not only the spatial nformation obtained from the antenna array, but also the temporal information obtained from a virtual temporal antenna array. The proposed algorithm for narrow-band signals extends the one-dimensional MUSIC algorithm to a multi-dimensional MUSIC algorithm to estimate azimuth and elevation angles and frequency of the received signal simultaneously. The proposed algorithm for wide-band signals introduces the two-dimensional spatio-temporal array model to estimate the angle and frequency components simultaneously. Experimental results for both joint narrowband DOA/FOA estimation and the joint wideband DOA/FOA are presented. The results indicate that the proposed algorithms are very suitable for joint DOA/FOA estimation.
