This thesis explores the spatial distribution of tax delinquent properties in Hamilton County Ohio. The study draws from the extant literature on tax delinquency and abandonment and employs a multi-faceted approach in content analysis. Through GIS techniques facilitated the extraction of delinquent and foreclosed residential properties were extracted for each jurisdiction in Hamilton County, Ohio. Subsequently statistical correlations verified the strength of the relationships between property tax delinquency and the selected census variables including race, median income, tenure and aged housing stock constructed 1939 or before. Based on the results of the study Hamilton County, Ohio does not confirm to trends suggested in extant literature. The strongest observed correlation was between race and delinquency. Also, the study aims to provide possible policy alternatives such as the introduction of a “Neighborhood Information System” (Hiller et. al 2003) to monitor the economic wellbeing of individual properties and by extension communities also. Other areas for future studies are provided such as the redevelopment of city neighborhoods and the impact of educational attainment and median incomes on delinquency.
