Abstract
As urban American struggles to regnerate, the strategy of redeveloping landmark buildings is often overlooked. However, there are concrete advantages that favor the adaptive reuse of urban landmark buildings over other common urban revitalization strategies. This thesis investigates the economic advantages of adaptively reusing urban landmark buildings in the context of urban revitalization, and how thesse redevelopments can bolster uban regeneration. The economics are studied from the viewpoint of both an investor and an urban governing body in otder to demonstrate how they mutually support each other, thereby creating successful revitalization. A set of action items are generated from this study that guide the design of a proposed redevelopment of Carew Tower in Cincinnati, Ohio. By following the action items, the proposed redevelopment acts as an example for how this urban landmark could be reused to bolster revitalization in Cincinnati. Sincer there are numberous ways in which an urban landmark buildling could be redveloped in the context of urban regeneration, the redevelopment proposal functions as a case study for implementing the ideas explored within this thesis to create better uses for urban landmark buildings with the goal of bolstering urban revitalization.
