Beryllium and its metallic alloys have been used in a number of industries because of its physical properties. The thesis evaluated 9,209 job and quarter/year combination collected at an Ohio manufacturing plant between 1958 and 1988, for temporal changes in airborne beryllium exposures. Twelve jobs, with DWA calculations for greater than 20 years during the study period, were selected for the time-trend analysis. The arithmetic DWA mean was 2.16 µg/m3 and the geometric mean DWA was 1.80 µg/m3. Nine of the 12 had statistically significant (p<0.001) variation in reported exposure. When the DWA calculations were log-transformed, 11 of the 12 had statistically significant (p<0.001) variations in reported exposure. Analysis of variance (ANOVA) of all twelve jobs (when analyzed as a group) indicated significant differences using both the normal reported values (p<.001) and log-transformed (p<.001) values. The database represents the first publicly available electronically coded beryllium exposure source for this facility.
