THE ANALYSIS OF UNEQUALLY SPACED TIME SERIES

ZHANG, SHIQIAO

Abstract Details

2007, MS, University of Cincinnati, Engineering : Computer Science.
The aim of the time series analysis is to identify the periodic phenomena inherent to the given data. Fourier analysis is often the standard approach used to perform the time series analysis. However, it is inadequate as it can only be used to treat equally spaced data and resolve regular frequency bands. In this thesis, the unequally spaced data will be addressed by the Lomb method. The least squares and classic periodogram methods are introduced, and their relationship is discussed. The Lomb method, which is a revised periodogram method, is then established and its statistical behavior is explained. The Lomb method is later implemented with the C# programming language and its computing efficiency is analyzed. Finally, the software package is applied to analyze the Pleistocene deep-sea paleoclimatic records. The results are discussed and compared with those published previously.
