CREATING A SUCCESSFUL MIXED-USE WATERFRONT: AN EVALUATION OF CINCINNATI'S BANKS

SOTZING, ERIKA

Abstract Details

2007, MCP, University of Cincinnati, Design, Architecture, Art and Planning : Community Planning.
Mixed-use, waterfront development has become an urban phenomenon in many American cities. Many of these waterfronts are abandoned and underutilized. This has led many cities to tremendous opportunity and mixed-use type projects seem to provide the best option for reclaiming the waterfront. The purpose of this thesis is to understand the key physical design elements which contribute to the success of mixed-use, waterfront development and evaluate the plan for Cincinnati’s riverfront development, known as the Banks. The study has been conducted in three phases; reviewing and analyzing various mixed-use, waterfront projects, establishing a framework for evaluating the Banks, and recommending changes to enhance the plan for the development.
