A Turnkey Solution for a Web-Based Long-Term Health Bridge Monitor Utilizing Low Speed Strain Measurements and Predictive Models

KIMMEL, GREGORY

Abstract Details

2008, MS, University of Cincinnati, Engineering : Electrical Engineering.
The University of Cincinnati Infrastructure Institute (UCII) has supported the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) since 1998 in maintaining the Ironton-Russell Bridge. UCII installed a series of vibrating wire strain gages to provide measurements of long-term environmental effects. The results are stored in a datalogger and downloaded at periodic intervals. A requirement to provide ODOT with an easy-to-use web-based interface to view the strain and temperature results led to a complete turnkey solution for a long-term health bridge monitor, utilizing low-speed strain measurements and predictive models. The web-based bridge monitor automatically stores the strain and temperature measurements in a MySQL database, creates linear regression models for fault detection, alerts ODOT officials of anomalies, and creates plots or exports readings from a simple web interface.
