LGBTQ Course(s) in Public Education

BRIDGMAN, BECKY L.

Abstract Details

2008, MEd, University of Cincinnati, Education : Secondary Education.
Perplexed by the continual problems that LGBTQ students face during their educational years, I began to wonder: Why there are no LGBTQ course(s) offered for these students within the public school system? Indeed, implementing such courses would provide students not only with accurate information, but also help to validate and address their needs. While researching the literature related to this issue, I began to realize how truly complex this question is. For that reason, three different sections were needed to answer this multifaceted question: curriculum, acceptance, and different views of education. Lastly, this thesis is meant for open-minded educators and administrators who recognize the multiple challenges faced by LGBTQ students in the school system, and who would like to work towards rectifying such educational biases.
