Grow: a spiritual core for the University of Cincinnati

NASILEVICH, YAN

Abstract Details

2008, MARCH, University of Cincinnati, Design, Architecture, Art and Planning : Architecture (Master of).
Today's society is disconnected from their environment, community and even the people around them. The culture we live in today upholds their own self interest and is pragmatic in their thinking. The architecture around us does not speak to the diverse social structure of our culture. Many of our buildings have no roots in our culture and do not take on the challenge of evoking spirit and developing our diverse humanity. Architecture must be put into a mutual relationship with society and emphasize a renewal of openness and connect the public to its common goals. The outcome of this thesis is a design for a spiritual center on the campus of the University of Cincinnati. The center will serve as a place for people to privately meditate or relax, as well as to provide a center where healing and growth of the community can come to light and take shape.
