Can the multiplicity in perception, usage and manifestation of architectural events be orchestrated to provide a better fit between users and architectural space? Our experience of architecture is a collective experience of all other architecture we have known. Events do not operate in isolation but are always linked to a multiplicity of phenomena. Perceptions of events as discrete entities neglect to recognize this system of relationships between part-to-part and part-to-whole. The spaces we design however, afford the possibility for design with manifest awareness of these interdependencies. This thesis addresses the potentialities of making the inter-relationship or the collective our central focus. Narrative is used as a methodological tool for identifying key project issues. Multiple narratives are interwoven to identify the nature of the design problem. The thesis explores how a given spatial structure can be appropriated to address user needs more closely. It encourages a situation-specific approach to design.
