Purpose: To develop and pilot test a database to properly measure nutrient intake in infants and their overweight, postpartum mothers who are participating in a dietary intervention.

Background: The prevalence of obesity is at an unprecedented high. Though there are many risk factors that contribute to obesity, family diet likely plays a large role. Infancy and toddlerhood are critical periods for obesity prevention because food preferences develop during this time. Dietary interventions focused on improving the diet of mothers may promote more healthful food preferences in children. Obtaining 24-hour recalls at various timepoints allows researchers to measure improvement of healthy food choices over time.

Database Development: The database was developed to be user-friendly and to efficiently organize and store nutrition-related data obtained from NDSR reports.

Pilot Testing Results: Pilot testing showed that the database is user-friendly, promotes quick and easy data entry with minimal user error, and is able to efficiently organize and store nutrition-related data.
