The greater Cincinnati area has experienced a population loss and economic decline over the past half century (Alltucker, Ken et.al. 2001). The only region within the greater Cincinnati area which has shown some positive trends of growth is the Eastern Corridor. A Major Investment Project (MIS); conducted from 1996-2000, endorsed a set of recommendations for multi-modal transportation improvements throughout the Eastern Corridor. This is expected to become a catalyst that would reverse the region´s outward development pattern by facilitating investments along the rail line (Transit Oriented Developments). There are two rail transit lines proposed as part of the multi-modal solution
for the Eastern Corridor–1) Oasis Line; 2) Wasson Line; along with a number of transit stations.
This thesis analyzed the seven proposed transit stations along the Oasis Alignment (as favored by the Eastern Corridor Study) for their suitability to be developed as Transit Oriented Development. A suitability analysis was conducted using GIS. The key outcome of this thesis was the formulation of a Planning Support System that conduct suitability analysis to help identify suitable transit stations for Transit Oriented Development and recommendations for their future development.
