Abstract Details

2008, PhD, University of Cincinnati, Arts and Sciences : English and Comparative Literature.
The Guard of Thornburg Towers is a collection of short stories based on characters and events taking place in the fictional town of San Bucato, California. The individual stories investigate the responses to pressures of characters as they, and the town, continue to change. When combined, the individual stories render a complete picture of a contemporary small town and its inhabitants. Several of the individual stories have been published, in slightly varied forms in various literary journals. These stories are “Pammy's Door” in The New Orleans Review; “Adoration” in Hayden's Ferry Review; “Old Miller Highway” in The Seattle Review; “Afterlife” in The Pacific Review; “In and Out the Eagle” in The Long Story; and “The Mission" in The Laurel Review.
