Chen Yi is an important contemporary composer of instrumental and choral works. She has been recognized with numerous awards and honors, and has received commissions from major arts organizations and ensembles. Her compositional style reflects a unique combination of traditional Chinese elements, folk songs, and style with Western techniques, formal structures and harmonic language. This document examines her choral music with an emphasis on assisting the conductor or performer in creating an informed and artistic performance.
