The purpose of this research paper was to demonstrate the power of a Geographic Information System (G.I.S.) when doing a suitability analysis. G.I.S. can be used by planners to determine if areas in city neighborhoods are compatible with Transit Oriented Developments (TOD). The city used for an example was Cincinnati, Ohio. The parameter used was 12 dwelling units per acre (dua. This parameter was applied, using G.I.S., to the city's neighborhoods. A determination was then made whether or not there were any TOD compatible neighborhoods.
Several intersections in various neighborhoods were pinpointed. A model, using ArcGIS Model Builder was designed by the student. This model used the parameter 12dua at distances of a quarter-mile and half-mile radius. The model was applied to the intersections. Five intersections were identified as compatible.
As a result, these five intersections were shown in different views. They were also analyas to how close or far they were from the City of Cincinnati's Streetcar Proposals.
