Abstract Details

2011, MS, University of Cincinnati, Engineering and Applied Science: Electrical Engineering.
In this work, phase mode excitation based beamforming is utilized in order to apply the Matrix Pencil (MP) method for direction of arrival (DOA) estimation to the uniform circular array (UCA). Azimuth-only (1-dimensional) DOA estimation is considered for both uncorrelated and correlated narrow band sources in the presence of white noise. Performance of the beamspace MP method for UCA is then characterized and compared to beamspace root-MUSIC with spatial smoothing. Simulation results show that the MP method outperforms root-MUSIC with spatial smoothing for low numbers of snapshots.
