Apolipoproteins are key structural elements of lipoproteins and critical mediators of lipid metabolism. Their detergent-like properties allow them to emulsify lipids or exist lipid-free in various states of self-association. Part of this family is apolipoprotein (apo) A-IV, a 43 kDa lipid binding protein. Biologically, apoA-IV has been linked to a wide range of functions: reverse cholesterol transport, chylomicron secretion, protection against LDL oxidation, anti-inflammation, satiety signaling, and glucose metabolism. The aims below are designed to structurally characterize apoA-IV.
