Load Transfer Across Pre-Stressed Tieback Anchors Grouted In Kope Bedrock Formation

Abstract Details

2013, MS, University of Cincinnati, Engineering and Applied Science: Civil Engineering.
The long-term behavior of a ground anchor helps in evaluating the performance of the anchor as per design principles. The distribution of the applied load along the length of an anchor and its development with time presents a coherent representation of the functioning of the anchor. Due to the limited availability of these studies and with regard to the influence of the local geology on the behavior of the anchor, this study attempts to address this issue for the Kope shale bedrock formation. Due to high landslide susceptibility of the hillslopes along the Ohio river, the ground anchors are typically used for landslide stabilization. The current study involves evaluation of the various design parameters of importance. Due to various interaction surfaces and their complex relationships, the strain gage data collected from the anchors compensate for the limitations in accurately modeling the anchor behavior. Due to the absence of any experimental procedures in evaluation of the bond stresses along the tendon-grout and grout — rock interface, the load transfer date calculated across the anchor provides a descriptive model of the interface interactions. The shaft displacement data calculated acknowledges the non-uniformity in the bond stress distribution along the length of the anchor and aids in evaluating the current design principles and predicting a model for the behavior of the anchor accurately. The anchor strains, load cell readings, load transfer and shaft displacement along the length of the anchor are evaluated and presented along with the strain gage readings.
