Monte Carlo simulation of the photon flux at the center of a concentric ring of 60Co sources in the University of Cincinnati pool irradiator

This research will mathematically simulate the gamma radiation received by samples irradiated in the Cobalt-60 irradiation pool at the University of Cincinnati to provide more accurate estimates of sample exposure. A modern-day experimental and mathematically modeled set of values for the radiation exposure in the 60Co pool will validate previous measurements and lead to a more accurate estimate of the contemporary radiation profile available today. Developing a mathematical model for all 60Co source pins enables a more complete exposure profile to be developed. A model of all of the source pins as an output from this research will support experiments and procedures using the irradiation pool which require more precise knowledge of flux or dose.
