Abstract Details

2020, PhD, University of Cincinnati, Arts and Sciences: Romance Languages and Literatures.
This is a creative writing project entitled Cleopatra y Antonio, an adaptation of the Shakespearean tragedy, which attempts to place both characters at the center of the play as protagonists. The first part of this dissertation reviews the theoretical, methodological and procedural processes that presided over the writing of the adaptation. It begins by explaining that the adaptation of a play is the result of a process of reinterpretation of its sources, textual and scenic, in constant evolution, since it is conditioned by the context in which it is developed. In the case of this adaptation, a feminist reading of the Elizabethan text has been made to reinterpret the play. In addition, it is argued that an adaptation will work as such, as long as the identity of the work is recognized by its recipients, therefore the research sought to locate the identity of Anthony and Cleopatra anchored in the language in order to reproduce it for a Spanish-speaking audience, in a process that was called appropriation of the work.
