Moderators of Interview Validity as Reflected in Online Video-Based Interview Coaching: A Qualitative Exploration

Abstract Details

2013, Master of Arts (M.A.), Xavier University, Psychology.
This qualitative study examines online interview coaching videos to determine the extent to which the advice contained therein has the potential to moderate interview validity. Six possible moderators were identified through review of previous research: structure, organization response strategy, initial impression, self-presentation, impression management, and situational interview. 1\ broad general research question was addressed along with six specific questions involving the frequency of each moderator. Frequencies of occurrence for each of the six potential moderators were assessed to help answer the six subsets of research questions. The results indicated in proportion to the total number of moderators identified are: structure 5. organization response strategy 13, initial impression advice 12, self-presentation 29 impression management 38, and situational interviews 3. The specific content of the video was examined to clarify the type of language being used most often that has the potential to influence the validity of the interview process. Recommendations for future research are offered.
