Addressing Horizontal Violence Against Registered Nurses in a Hospital Setting

Abstract Details

2021, Doctor of Nursing Practice Degree Program in Population Health Leadership DNP, Xavier University, Nursing.
Nurse-to-Nurse horizontal violence is a phenomenon that has inundated the nursing profession all across the United States. The lasting effect of horizontal violence has compromised the nursing world to the extent of nurses leaving the profession all together. This DNP project will identify the different types of negative behaviors that are most frequently being displayed from registered nurses and provide support for nurse managers in handling incidents of horizontal violence. This DNP project will describe the development in the process of providing education, intervention, and resource opportunities regarding horizontal violence for registered nurses and nurse managers. The analyzes derived of the tools used will be incorporated into the development, planning, and implementation of a process that will benefit both nurses and unit managers regarding horizontal violence. Although this facility has strategized, adhered to policies and guidelines, which includes bringing awareness of horizontal violence to the entire organization; horizontal violence still remains a big problem within the nursing profession.
