Click Chemistry Synthesis of Neoglycooligomers and Neoglycopolymers

Mills, Isaac N.

Abstract Details

2012, Master of Science in Chemistry, Youngstown State University, Department of Chemistry.
This thesis deals with the click chemistry synthesis of neoglycooligomers and the attempted click chemistry synthesis of a neoglycopolymer. Experimentation led to successful synthesis of a novel trisaccharide using a simple series of step-wise transformations starting with galactose and 1,2;3,4-di-O-isopropylidene-α-D-galactopyranose. Successful synthesis of the neoglycooligomer was verified using 1H and 13C NMR, as well as COSY, HSQC, and mass spectrometry. Experimentation also led to the synthesis of a macrocycle from 1,2;3,4-di-O-isopropylidene-6-O-prop(2-ynl)-α-D-galactopyranose, rather than the intended polymer. The macrocycle was confirmed to have formed with a distribution of four to seven monomer units using matrix-assisted laser desorption ionization (MALDI).
