Coronary Artery Disease (CAD) represents one of the more pervasive chronic conditions and is often highlighted as one of the leading causes of death. The condition manifests from the chronic deposition of lipids within the arterial wall, a process known as atherosclerosis. CAD is mainly treated through the implantation of drug-eluting stents. First and Second- generation drug eluting stents utilize highly toxic chemotherapeutic agents that delay the re-endothelialization process and inhibit proper vascular healing. A new generation of drug-eluting stent has been proposed to address these issues. Resveratrol and quercetin represent a non-toxic alternative that can accelerate re-endothelialization and promote proper vascular healing. Both compounds can be applied to a drug-eluting stent and balloon platform for the coronary artery and peripheral artery disease markets. The purpose of this thesis is to analyze the commercial viability of a resveratrol and quercetin eluting stent and balloon.
