EFFECTS OF METAL AND METAL SULFIDE INCORPORATION ON PORPHYRIN AND RUTHENIUM DYE SENSITIZED SOLAR CELLS

Effects of nanoparticles or quantum dots of Au, Ag, CdS and Ag2S on TCPP (tetrakis(4-carboxyphenyl)porphyrin) and N3 dye (cis-bis(isothiocyanato)bis(2,2'-bipyridyl-4,4'-dicarboxylato)-ruthenium(II)) sensitized solar cells (DSSCs) photovoltaic performance were studied in this thesis. It was found that Au nanoparticles improves 18.8% of short circuit current density (Jsc)and 19.7% of conversion efficiency (¿) for TCPP cells while it does not play any effect on N3 cells. Ag nanoparticles were able to improve 17.5% of Jsc and 15.2% of ¿ for N3 cells but decreases the Jsc and ¿ for TCPP cells. A maximum 27.5 % of Jsc and 30.9 % of ¿ improvements were achieved for TCPP cells and reduced efficiency were seen for N3 cells when using CdS quantum dots. Decreased cell performance was observed for TCPP and N3 cells with Ag2S nanoparticles. The detailed mechanisms that caused the above effects were analyzed by the dye desorption, EIS measurement, etc.
