Mixed-signal ICs are ushering in an amazing era of Systems-on-a-Chip (SoC) ICs. The ever-increasing demand for feature rich consumer electronics coupled with decreasing device sizes open up limitless possibilities in Mixed-signal IC design. In this research we develop a methodology for comprehensive design and verification of a complex mixed-signal system using VHDL-AMS. We have described Sigma-Delta Analog to Digital Converter (SDADC) in VHDL-AMS, exploiting the advantages of modular design flow typical to VHDL, which helped in Top-Down design and Bottom-Up verification. We present an approach to develop, model, test and verify a mixed-signal system in VHDL-AMS. The design and development were made possible by the continuous time simulator provided by Mentor Graphics in their latest SystemVision 4.2 Educational Version. The test scripts and experimentation methodologies are made generic to help in faster design and development of future mixed-signal models.
