Divorce Mediation in Northeast Ohio: Perceptions of Legal and Social Services Professionals

Cookro, Nicholas A.

Abstract Details

2009, Master of Arts, University of Akron, Family and Consumer Sciences-Child and Family Development.
The purpose of this study was to examine the perceptions that legal and social services professionals held about divorce/custody mediation from the theoretical perspective of Social Conflict Theory. By examining the perceptions of professionals involved with mediation, a better understanding of this method for resolving conflict added to the body of knowledge already developed on divorce. Following the tenets of Social Conflict theory this study also worked to enable social scientists to more fully understand and predict the changes that will occur within the social system in which the conflict in question occurred.
