This paper seeks to provide a detailed, thoughtful review of the pertinent scholarly literature on the subject of museum membership from the past fifteen years, examine the membership program of the Summit County Historical Society in Akron, Ohio, assess and classify it according to the Hayes-Slater assessment framework and membership program typology, and compose a case study of the Summit County Historical Society and its membership program.
